Planning 🧭

After a memorable drive from Bangalore, we arrived at Gokulam Homestay in Munnar by 3 PM. After a brief break of about an hour, we decided to take advantage of the remaining daylight by seeing some of the areas near our guesthouse in Anachal. The plan was to start with the Ripple waterfalls and then proceed to the Pothamedu Viewpoint, stopping along the way to see the 2nd mile and Chithirapuram viewpoints.

Best route 🗺

We took the below route:

Gokulam Homestay > (9 km ) > Ripple waterfalls > ( 12 Km ) > 2nd Mile Viewpoint > ( 6.5 Km ) > Pothamedu Viewpoint > ( 7.5 Km ) > Chithirapuram Viewpoint > (5 Km ) > Gokulam Homestay

As you can see, we planned to visit all the nearby attractions together because we only had a few hours until sunset. These four locations are all within 25 kilometres of one another.

Reaching Ripple Waterfalls 🚥

Ripple Waterfalls is located about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) from Munnar town. The homestay where we were staying is 9 kilometers away. We started from our homestay at 4 pm, and it took us 20 minutes to reach Ripple Waterfalls through the beautiful interior roads of Munnar. It started to drizzle as soon as we arrived. Unfortunately, there is no dedicated parking space available at the venue, so we had to park our car on the side of the road. During peak hours, it may be difficult to find a nearby parking spot, as the place gets crowded with tourist jeeps.

Ripple waterfalls 🏞

Ripple Waterfalls is situated in Sreenarayanapuram, Munnar. Visitors need to pay a nominal fee of 20rs per person. As you enter, you’ll be welcomed by a stroll of shops selling homemade products. You can also opt for ziplining across the river. Ripple Waterfall flows in two stages, but since we visited in the middle of summer, the first stage of the descent was a little dry. A series of well-guarded steps will lead you to the second stage of the waterfall. The Muthirappuzhayar River forms the Ripple waterfall. Due to two days of prior rain in Munnar, we were able to observe a good flow of water during our visit. We spent around 30 minutes at this beautiful place before proceeding to our next destination, the 2nd Mile Viewpoint.

2nd mile viewpoint 🌄

The 2nd Mile viewpoint is located at a distance of 12 km from Ripple Waterfalls on the Kochi-Munnar highway. It is also 12 km away from Munnar town. The 2nd Mile Viewpoint is situated at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) above sea level, making it an ideal location to enjoy a cool breeze and breathtaking scenery. Visitors can witness the stunning sight of clouds floating over hills and valleys, especially during the monsoon season. The viewpoint is easily accessible by road and provides ample parking space for vehicles. There is no entry fee to visit the viewpoint. The best time to visit is in the early morning or late afternoon when the sunlight is not too harsh and the view is clear. Small shops and food stalls are available near the viewpoint for visitors to purchase snacks and refreshments. We stopped for quick visit of 10 minutes and headed towards Pothamedu Viewpoint
