Magod Falls
Sonde to Yellapur
It was already 12:30 PM and in the next 6 hours we had to drive to the Magod falls via Yellapura with zero ideas about road conditions and come back to Sirsi to visit Marikamba temple and go further south to Banavasi to visit Madhukeshwara temple before finishing our Uttara Kannada trip. We decided to have lunch at Yellapura. Yellapura is around 40 km from Sonde Vadiraja Matha and it takes around 50 mins to reach. The road condition is good except for the small stretch where a new bridge is being built across the Bedti river.
Food options at Yellapur
At around 1-20pm, we reached Yellapura. Not having any idea about good veg restaurant around we again relied on Google maps for the suggestions. We rounded up on a place called Sankalp Hotel. By the time we entered the hotel was buzzing with a crowd. Finally, we found a not-so-clean table for lunch. We ordered the meals and it didn’t taste good. This hotel is low on cleanliness and ambiance. We don’t recommend having food here. As we left the place after a distance of a few hundred meters we saw another Restaurant named Shree Krishna Rasoi. it looked promising. We regretted not trying this.
Reaching Magod Falls
Distance-wise Magod falls is just a 16 km drive from Yellapur. Even though the distance looked small it took almost 50 mins for us to reach the place.
The route goes through thick forest and rough patches. To keep the car suspension intact we drove at a steady pace of 20km/hr in many places. Please be cautious if you are driving this stretch during the monsoon. things may go wrong. We went during November it was totally safe to drive.
To get the perfect idea about the route condition you must watch our video on the falls. Once you reach the destination, you will find enough space for parking. There was no entry and parking fee when we visited the place
Magod Falls
A few steps from the parking lot will take you to the first viewpoint of this beautiful waterfall. Bedti river (Gangavalli river) flowing down from a height of nearly 200 m (650 feet) in 2 stages into a narrow valley of rocks is the most beautiful thing to watch.
The best time to visit the falls is from June – January. Entry to the waterfalls is open from 9 am to 5 pm on all days. A series of steps descending down the hill has many viewpoints that offer a beautiful view of the waterfalls from different perspectives.
Around Magod Falls
When you are visiting this place, if you have plenty of time, you can also try these 2 spots.
1) Jenukallu Gudda: A famous sunset point 6 km from the falls
2) Kavadikere: A beautiful lake 13 km from the falls
The spectacular view of the falls makes you forget the tiring drive you had to reach the place. Tough roads take you to beautiful places and this place proves the point yet again.
